Kouklia Village Cyprus
Kouklia is a village of the district of Pafos and lies at a distance of about 16 kilometers from the city of Pafos, Cyprus.
This is a traditional Cypriot village situated 12 minutes east of Paphos Town.
The village centre is contains several restaurants, shops and taverns and is quickly becoming a popular spot, due to its proximity to all amenities: 5 minutes from two international golf courses, 5 minutes from sandy beaches, 10 minutes from Paphos International airport and very close to Paphos town.
Kouklia is a small village a mere fifteen minute (9 mile) drive from the busy tourist resort of Paphos, famous primarily for the Paleopafos archaeological site, which is listed as a UNESCO heritage site. The site is well worth a visit, as is the ancient Church.
The ancient village is supposed to have been founded by one Agaperon who had fought in the Trojan wars.
There is a pleasant local legend that tells of King Pygmalion carving a statue of Aphrodite that was so beautiful he fell in love with it. The goddess Aphrodite turned the statue into a real woman and Pygmalion had a son by her who was named Paphos, giving rise to the name of the place.
Secret Valley Golf and Country Club, Kouklia area
Opened back in 1996, Secret Valley was the second 18-hole grass course to be constructed on the island and rapidly became the local player’s favorite (even more so than the neighboring Aphrodite Hills).
Whilst the existing course provides a superb playing experience and could successfully carry on its existence without any major changes, a major extension and remodeling program is nevertheless underway.

Leda and the Swan Mosaic at Kouklia, Cyprus
Kouklia was the home to a cult of Aphrodite from at least 3,800 BC and was mentioned in many ancient texts, including Homer's Iliad. The temple complex is now largely in ruins but the many art treasures found there are now in museums in New York, Paris, London and Nicosia. This is actually a copy of a 3rd century AD mosaic of Leda and the Swan at Kouklia. The original is in the museum but this copy was placed in the exact spot where the original was found.
